1995 18th WORLD SCOUT JAMBOREE

Flevoland in Dronten, Holland, was the location for the 18th World Scout Jamboree. This was the second World Jamboree in the Netherlands. There were 28,960 participants and staff from 166 countries and territories, including 34 countries where Scouting was starting or restarting. This representation of countries was the largest ever. The Jamboree also had 75,000 visitors. The theme was "The Future is Now".
 
"Operation Flevoland" help finance the participation of Scouts from poor countries. The Jamboree was officially opened by H.M. Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and her husband Prince Claus. The Jamboree was also visited by H.M. the King of Sweden, Princess Basma of Jordan and Mrs. Sadako Ogata, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
 
Popular activities included the Global Development Village and the World Scout Centre. The Global Development Village (GDV) had the support of Scout associations, NGOs and UN specialized agencies, in particular UNHCR and UNICEF. The Jamboree celebrated the 50th anniversary of the United Nations with a Scout Forum and communication by satellite with UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali. There was also a special event that included a naval pageant with over 250 ships. In addition, Holland's Scouting Group hosted all the Jamboree Participants for one full day.
